About 3DJB
Our barristers practise in courts at every level across the country, representing a wide range of individuals, businesses and public bodies. Our clients include small high street solicitors, major City firms and local authorities, as well as members of the public who instruct us directly under the Public Access scheme. Several members offer additional strengths through foreign language skills and expertise in foreign law, including Islamic law, allowing us to assist in cases with international or cross-border elements.
All members of Chambers combine strong legal ability with an approachable and practical manner. We understand that clients value clarity, responsiveness and sound judgement alongside technical excellence. Our team reflects a breadth of professional experience and diverse backgrounds, supported by a healthy gender balance, enabling us to deliver a service that is both inclusive and commercially aware.
We have particular expertise in matters involving the interaction between civil and family law. Our open-door culture encourages collaboration, ensuring colleagues consult one another when cases raise overlapping issues.
Several barristers hold part-time judicial appointments as Recorders, Deputy District Judges and Tribunal Judges, and many contribute to wider public service. For enquiries, please contact our clerks on 020 7353 4854 or email clerks@3djb.co.uk
History
For more than a century, Chambers was based in the heart of the Temple before relocating to Dickens House, 15 Took’s Court, providing modern, welcoming premises with excellent conferencing facilities just off Chancery Lane in the centre of legal London.
The set’s history dates back to the 19th century and is closely linked to the development of Inner Temple Lane. Early timber buildings along the route from Fleet Street Gate to Temple Church were replaced in 1657 by brick structures known as Nos. 1–5 Inner Temple Lane. Following later redevelopment, Dr Johnson’s Buildings were constructed in 1858 by Sydney Smirke and named after Dr Samuel Johnson, who had once lived on the site.
Over the years, Chambers has been home to a number of distinguished figures. Mr Justice Darling, a former Head of Chambers, was appointed to the High Court in 1897 and later sat on the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council. Edward Carson QC, renowned for his advocacy, later became a Law Lord.
Members have also contributed significantly to legal scholarship, including editing leading practitioner texts and the White Book. Many former members were appointed to the judiciary, a tradition that continues today alongside active practice at the Bar.
A Modern, Forward-Thinking Set
Building on this distinguished foundation, Chambers continues to combine high standards and excellence with a practical and approachable outlook.
Now based at Dickens House, 15 Took’s Court, the set offers modern, well-equipped facilities in a prime central location.
Chambers is currently led by Head of Chambers Lisa Peacock, with James Doble serving as Senior Clerk, supporting the continued development and reputation of the set.
